The Farley family, Germantown, Maryland residents, wanted an outdoor living space that complemented their needs and lifestyle, rather than their existing concrete patio. They wanted a spacious area that included a patio, outdoor fireplace and kitchen, sitting walls, landscape lighting, and plantings.
The old concrete patio was removed, and a large new Pennsylvania flagstone (bluestone) patio was built, along with a 10-foot-tall fireplace with brick inlays and an outdoor kitchen with granite countertops, a stainless steel grill, and a bar area with stools. A cedar pergola was constructed above the kitchen. The new patio is spacious, approximately 1000 square feet.
The outdoor living space also includes steps, sitting walls, low-voltage lighting, and plantings—crape myrtle trees, cherry laurels, boxwoods, and various perennials. The fireplace, sitting walls, and kitchen were constructed with Chocolate/Grey rubble stone. A coaxial cable wire runs to the fireplace mantle for connection of an outdoor TV that can be placed on the mantle.
In short, the Farley family wanted a patio to impress—and that’s what they got!
