Before & After Pool Deck Remodel: Wesson
If you have a backyard pool, you know it’s one of the prime parts of your home in the summer—it’s where you host pool parties, cool off on hot summer days, and enjoy quality family time. The Wesson project takes an outdated 1970’s pool and transforms it into a contemporary and sophisticated outdoor living space anyone would love.
Wesson Pool Deck Remodel: Before
Years of wear and tear on this traditional concrete pool deck had finally begun to show, calling for a pool deck remodel. The original pool deck wasn’t graded properly, leading to unevenness and weeds growing in between the pavers. The traditional concrete was very slippery when wet, creating a safety hazard.
The shape of the pool also posed a problem. Because this pool was built in the 1970’s, it had a pretty unconventional shape. This became even more apparent when we noticed the odd angle of the pool walls.
Wesson Pool Deck Remodel: After
We uprooted any remnants of the old pool deck. This included all concrete, stone, and even a few plants. We then regraded the land around the pool deck—this ensures a flat and even pool deck, and is especially important for proper water drainage.
We repaved the pool deck. You can easily cut the pavers to the desired shape, which is great for more complicated pool designs. Finishing off with a new cantilever, the 1970’s pool instantly looked more refined.
We also built a new retaining wall at the far end of the pool. The original was an old, decrepit brick which was poorly built and deteriorating. Our new retaining wall doubled as a sitting ledge. Doing this really expanded options for entertaining. Creating the sitting ledge gives the retaining wall form AND function!
