Custom Paver Patio Installation for Homeowners in Potomac, MD

Since 2002, Four Seasons Landscaping has designed and built custom paver patios for homeowners across Montgomery County, and Potomac’s mix of mature, tree-lined lots and larger estate properties is exactly the kind of project our design-build model was made for. One team handles the layout, the excavation, the engineered base, and the finished install — no handoffs, no separate subcontractors managing different pieces of your yard.

A patio earns its place as the most-used surface in a backyard because it flexes with the season: a dining space in July, a fire-lit lounge in October, and the foundation the rest of your outdoor living plan gets built around. We plan the layout around your household’s actual habits first, then engineer the base to hold up through Maryland’s winters without heaving or settling.

If “paver patio installers near me” is what brought you here, you’ve found a local team that builds these year-round. Contact Four Seasons Landscaping for a free paver patio consultation in Potomac, MD.

Paver Patios We Build in Potomac, MD

Every Potomac yard is different, but these are the projects homeowners here ask us for most often:

Entertaining-Focused Patio Layouts

Laid out around your actual table and seating plan with room to circulate, oriented for the sun and shade pattern of your specific lot, and connected by a clean, direct path from the kitchen or back door.

Fire Feature & Lounge Patios

An open, conversation-first layout built around a fire pit or fireplace, so the patio keeps getting used well after the dinner-table season ends.

Multi-Level Patios for Uneven Yards

Common on Potomac’s sloped and wooded lots — we use retaining walls, steps, and stepped grading to build patios that follow the terrain instead of requiring you to flatten it, tying multiple levels into one connected space.

Paths, Steps & Patio Connections

Matching or complementary paver walkways, steps, and landings that link the patio to the driveway, front walk, pool deck, or garden beds so the whole property reads as one design.

All-in-One Outdoor Living Design

The patio is the base layer everything else sits on, so we design it in tandem with fire features, outdoor kitchens, pergolas, seating walls, and landscape lighting rather than as an afterthought.

Whatever you’re picturing, our paver patio design work in Potomac, MD is built for long-term results, not just a nice photo on day one. Contact Four Seasons Landscaping to schedule your free consultation.

Why Potomac Homeowners Choose a Paver Patio

Most homeowners comparing patio surfaces are really weighing pavers against poured concrete. In Potomac’s climate and soil conditions, pavers hold up better on nearly every point that matters years down the road:

Pavers shift with frost; slabs crack from it.

Poured concrete goes down as a single rigid slab, so when Potomac’s clay-heavy soil swells and contracts through freeze-thaw cycles, that slab has nowhere to go but cracked. A paver patio is built from individual units set over a flexible base, which lets it ride out ground movement instead of splitting apart.

One damaged paver, one simple fix.

Drop something heavy, notice a stain, or need to dig down to a buried line? We pull the affected pavers, make the fix, and reset them — no visible scar. Try that with a concrete slab and you’re left staring at a patch for the life of the patio.

Far more material and pattern choices than concrete.

Concrete gives you one texture and whatever shade you’re willing to settle for. Pavers come in clay brick, natural stone, and dozens of concrete-paver profiles, each with its own color range and laying pattern, so the finished patio actually looks designed rather than poured.

Designed drainage means fewer puddles.

The gaps between pavers, combined with a properly built base, give rainwater somewhere to go. A flat concrete slab doesn’t have that built-in drainage, which is why concrete patios are the ones you’ll see holding puddles after a storm.

A patio buyers remember.

A patio built with pavers reads as a finished, intentional outdoor space to a prospective buyer walking a Potomac property, and it’s one of the exterior upgrades that consistently shows up in what this market will pay more for.

Local expertise since 2002.

We’ve been building patios across Montgomery County since 2002 — long enough to know exactly how the soil, drainage patterns, and permitting process here play out. That’s the difference between a patio designed for Potomac and one that’s just installed here.

Our Paver Patio Installation Process in Potomac, MD

The pavers you see are the last five percent of the job. What’s underneath is what determines whether your patio stays flat or starts rippling and sinking within a few years — so here’s how we build that foundation:

1. Design Walkthrough

Before anything is scheduled, we come out to your Potomac property and look at what we’re actually working with: the grade, any tree roots or slope factoring into the layout, and how you picture using the space. You walk away from that visit with a real layout and a written estimate, not a placeholder number.

2. Material & Pattern Decisions

From there we go through paver options together and settle on how they’ll be laid out — herringbone, basket weave, running bond, or something else — based on what fits your home’s style and your budget.

3. Excavating & Grading the Yard

We excavate and grade the site so water is directed away from the foundation rather than toward it. Most patio failures trace back to someone skipping this step to save time; it’s the one part of the job we won’t shortcut.

4. The Base That Holds It All

A compacted crushed-stone base goes in next — typically 4 to 6 inches, deeper where drainage is poor or the clay content is heavier — installed in lifts and topped with a leveling layer of bedding sand. This is the part nobody sees once the job’s done, and it’s also the part that decides whether your patio is still flat in ten years.

5. Setting Each Paver by Hand

Each paver is hand-placed into the chosen pattern with tight, consistent joints, and we take our time on the cuts at borders, curves, and any step transitions so the edges look intentional, not improvised.

6. Sealing the Joints & Edges

Edge restraints go in around the perimeter so nothing can creep outward over time, and polymeric sand gets swept into the joints, where it hardens into a barrier against weeds, ants, and shifting.

7. Compaction, Cleanup & Final Review

We run one more pass of compaction for a solid, level surface, clear away every bit of debris and cutoff material, and walk the finished patio with you, including a few pointers on keeping it looking new.

Paver Materials We Install

  • Natural stone (flagstone, bluestone, travertine) — the pick for a Potomac homeowner who wants a surface no other patio on the block shares; every piece is unique.
  • Clay brick — holds its warm tone for decades because the color runs all the way through the material, not just on the surface.
  • Concrete pavers — the widest range of shapes, colors, and price points, which makes this the most common choice on a budget-conscious project.
  • Compacted crushed stone — the base layer nobody sees, and the one actually responsible for whether your patio drains properly and stays flat for years.
  • Polymeric sand — swept into the joints and hardened to keep weeds, ants, and shifting pavers from becoming a problem later.

Paver Patio FAQs for Potomac Homeowners

How much does a paver patio cost in Potomac, MD?

Paver patio cost in Potomac depends on square footage, the material you choose (concrete pavers, brick, or natural stone), site prep and drainage requirements, and any added features like steps, seating walls, or a fire pit. Straightforward concrete-paver patios sit at the lower end, while larger natural-stone or multi-level designs — common on Potomac’s sloped lots — run higher. Four Seasons Landscaping provides a customized estimate after a free on-site consultation; typical project budgets range from $10,000–$20,000 up to $50,000 and above.

Are pavers better than concrete for a patio in Potomac?

For Montgomery County’s freeze-thaw climate, pavers are generally the better long-term choice. A poured concrete slab is rigid and cracks as the ground heaves; a paver patio flexes with the ground, individual pavers can be replaced if damaged, and it offers far more design flexibility. Concrete can cost less upfront, but pavers typically win on longevity, repairability, and appearance over time.

Can you build a paver patio on a sloped or uneven yard in Potomac?

Yes — sloped, wooded lots are common throughout Potomac, and they’re one of our specialties. We use grading, steps, and retaining walls to build multi-level patios that work with the terrain instead of against it, often turning the trickiest part of a yard into its best feature.

How long does paver patio installation take in Potomac?

Most residential paver patios in Potomac take several days to about two weeks, depending on size, site conditions, drainage requirements, and any added features. Excavation and base work take the most time because that’s what determines whether the patio lasts. We provide a firm timeline in your estimate and keep you updated throughout the project.

Doug and his team at Four Seasons are excellent! Four years ago, Doug designed an entirely new front walkway plus all new shrubs and trees. Within the first year, it grew beautifully and today, it is stunning. We were so pleased, we’ve gone back to Doug two more times. Two years ago to fill in an area in our backyard that lost so many trees over the years due to storms — it is a lovely oasis in our backyard today. Then less than a year ago, another storm took out a few of our front yard trees and Doug planted a new bed of replacement trees. The landscaping looks so good, the delivery people even comment on it! We keep going back to Doug because he creates beautiful designs with high quality products. Plus his team does excellent work. We highly recommend Four Seasons!

"I feel like I'm at the W" That was a quote from one of our friends when they first saw our new patio that Four Seasons Landscaping built for us. This is the second time I've used Four Seasons Landscaping to install a patio at a house we've owned. Their work is TOP NOTCH. Doug and his artisans transformed a poorly designed patio into a backyard oasis. As can be seen from the before an after photos, we went from having a limited and cluttered outdoor living space to one where we now entertain year round. We have an expanded pool deck with Travertine tiles that stay cool in the summer with lounge seating on once side and firepit that seats 10-12 off the other. We now have a brand new outdoor kitchen on a raised patio off the main kitchen in the house. Additionally, a second raised landing was installed to provide a walkout from our sunroom which leads to an outstanding fireplace on the main patio area (All flagstone). At our most recent holiday party, everyone who saw the patio thought it was gorgeous. Tastefully and thoughtfully laid out with amazing craftsmanship. Many said that it felt like they were at a resort. If you are looking for someone that takes pride in their work and does it with the utmost care and attention to detail, I would highly recommend Doug and Four Seasons Landscaping for your next project.

It was a pleasure working with Doug and his crew on our daughter's large hardscaping project--a larger front stoop, a new and longer retaining wall, beautiful, lighted steps and a front patio. The entrance to their home went from narrow and downright dangerous to welcoming and gorgeous! Doug was creative and flexible throughout the project as our ideas and vision evolved (our daughter requested non-invasive/native-if-possible plants), and his suggestion to create a patio space in front and add lighting to the steps for safety was inspired. His crew was communicative, reliable, and did top-notch work. We also had them seal a patio in back and improve drainage, and plant a tree to commemorate our grandson's birth. Although the original plan called for new plantings, we decided to add perennial flowers for now and complete the planting vision at a later time. We have had many experiences with contractors, good and bad, and Four Seasons Landscaping & Nursery was among the BEST we have ever used!
