Custom Paver Patio Installation for Homeowners in Germantown, MD

Four Seasons Landscaping is a family-owned design-build company that has been shaping Maryland backyards since 2002 — and in Germantown, that means turning overlooked side yards and back lawns into paver patios homeowners actually spend time on. We manage the entire build ourselves: layout and design, excavation, the compacted base that does the real work, the paver installation, and the finishing details.

No two patios look the same because no two households use their yard the same way. Some homeowners want a dedicated spot for a dining table and string lights; others are building around a future fire pit, an outdoor kitchen, or a pergola. Whatever the goal, everything we install sits on a base engineered specifically to hold up through Maryland’s freeze-thaw winters without heaving or shifting.

Searching for paver patio installers near you in Germantown who back up the design work with solid construction underneath? Reach out to Four Seasons Landscaping for a free paver patio consultation.

Paver Patios We Build in Germantown, MD

We design every patio around how the space will actually get used. Here’s what Germantown homeowners request most often:

Dinner-Table & Entertaining Patios

Laid out around your table and seating first, with enough clearance to move comfortably and a straightforward path from the kitchen or back door, so hosting doesn’t require a plan.

Fire Pit & Evening Lounge Patios

An open, conversation-friendly layout with seating built around a fire pit or fireplace, extending the patio’s usable season well past the warm months.

Sloped-Yard & Multi-Level Layouts

On sloped or uneven Germantown lots, we design stepped and wraparound layouts that work with the grade rather than against it, tying levels together with retaining walls and steps.

Connecting Walkways, Steps & Landings

Pavers extended into walkways, steps, and landings that link the patio to the driveway, front door, pool area, or garden beds in matching or complementary materials for a cohesive property.

Full Outdoor Living Packages

Since the patio is the base everything else sits on, we plan it alongside fire features, kitchens, pergolas, seat walls, and lighting for one unified outdoor space.

Our paver patio design work in Germantown is built around how families actually use their yards. Contact Four Seasons Landscaping to schedule your free consultation.

Why Germantown Homeowners Choose a Paver Patio

When it comes to patio surfaces, most homeowners end up comparing the same two options: pavers or a poured concrete slab. Given what Germantown’s climate puts a patio through over the years, pavers come out ahead on nearly every point that counts:

They move with the ground instead of cracking.

Winter freeze-thaw cycles push and pull the soil underneath any hardscape. A poured slab is a single rigid sheet, so it cracks when the ground shifts. A paver patio is built from individual units over a flexible base, so it settles and resettles without splitting.

Damage one paver, fix one paver.

If a paver cracks, stains, or a utility line underneath needs attention, we lift and reset just that section — the rest of the patio doesn’t get touched. Try that with a poured slab and you’re looking at a visible patch, if it can be patched at all.

More colors, textures, and patterns than concrete offers.

Brick, natural stone, tumbled pavers, large-format concrete units — the color, texture, and pattern combinations run far deeper than what a poured slab can offer.

Water drains instead of pooling on the surface.

The gaps between individual pavers, paired with the engineered base underneath, give rainwater a path off the patio instead of letting it sit. Poured slabs are one continuous surface, so water tends to sheet across the top and pool wherever the grade dips.

Buyers notice a finished patio.

A well-built paver patio reads to buyers as a finished outdoor room rather than a slab with furniture on it — it’s routinely cited as one of the upgrades that helps at resale.

Two decades of local know-how.

Building throughout the county since 2002 means we’ve hit Germantown’s clay-heavy patches, its drainage quirks, and its permitting process before — so there’s no learning curve on your project.

Our Paver Patio Installation Process in Germantown, MD

What’s underneath a paver patio matters more than what’s on top. The pavers you see are just the final layer — it’s the base beneath them that decides whether the patio holds level for years or starts rippling and sinking. That’s the thinking behind every step of our process:

1. On-Site Design Visit

The pavers are the part you see — the part that decides whether the patio stays flat for twenty years or starts rippling in three is everything underneath. Here’s how we handle both.

2. Choosing Your Material & Pattern

Together we settle on the paver material and how it’s laid — herringbone, running bond, basket weave, or something custom — based on your home’s style and your budget.

3. Digging & Grading the Site

We excavate to the right depth and slope the site so water drains toward the yard, not toward your foundation. Most patio failures trace back to someone rushing this step — we don’t.

4. Building the Engineered Base

Layers of compacted crushed stone — 4 to 6 inches, more if the soil calls for it — go down first, topped with a leveling bed of sand. Everything about how the patio performs for the next two decades comes down to this layer.

5. Setting the Pavers

Every unit is placed individually in the chosen pattern, with tight, even joints and clean cuts wherever the layout curves or meets an edge.

6. Locking the Edges & Joints

Edge restraints keep the outer border from creeping outward over time, and polymeric sand gets swept into the joints, hardening in place to shut out weeds and insects.

7. Final Compaction & Walkthrough

We compact the whole surface for a locked-in, level finish, clear the site of debris, and walk the completed patio with you — including how to care for it going forward.

Paver Patio FAQs for Germantown Homeowners

How much does a paver patio cost in Germantown, MD?

Paver patio cost in Germantown depends on square footage, the material you choose (concrete pavers, brick, or natural stone), site prep and drainage needs, and any add-ons like steps, walls, or a fire pit. Simpler concrete-paver patios fall at the lower end, while larger natural-stone or multi-level designs run higher. Four Seasons Landscaping provides a custom estimate after a free on-site consultation in Germantown; typical project budgets range from $10–20k up to $50k and above.

Are pavers better than concrete for a patio in Germantown?

For Montgomery County’s freeze-thaw climate, pavers are generally the better long-term choice. A poured concrete slab is rigid and cracks as the ground heaves, while a paver patio flexes with the ground, individual pavers can be replaced if damaged, and the design options are far broader. Concrete may cost less upfront, but pavers typically win on longevity, repairability, and appearance over time.

Can you build a paver patio on a sloped or uneven yard in Germantown?

Yes. Sloped and uneven lots are common around Germantown, and they’re one of our specialties. We use grading, steps, and retaining walls to build multi-level patios that work with the slope rather than fighting it, often turning the trickiest part of a yard into its best feature.

How long does paver patio installation take in Germantown?

Most residential paver patios in the Germantown area take several days to about two weeks, depending on size, site conditions, drainage work, and any added features. Excavation and base work take the most time, since that’s what determines how long the patio lasts. You’ll get a firm timeline in your estimate and updates throughout the project.

Doug and his team at Four Seasons are excellent! Four years ago, Doug designed an entirely new front walkway plus all new shrubs and trees. Within the first year, it grew beautifully and today, it is stunning. We were so pleased, we’ve gone back to Doug two more times. Two years ago to fill in an area in our backyard that lost so many trees over the years due to storms — it is a lovely oasis in our backyard today. Then less than a year ago, another storm took out a few of our front yard trees and Doug planted a new bed of replacement trees. The landscaping looks so good, the delivery people even comment on it! We keep going back to Doug because he creates beautiful designs with high quality products. Plus his team does excellent work. We highly recommend Four Seasons!

"I feel like I'm at the W" That was a quote from one of our friends when they first saw our new patio that Four Seasons Landscaping built for us. This is the second time I've used Four Seasons Landscaping to install a patio at a house we've owned. Their work is TOP NOTCH. Doug and his artisans transformed a poorly designed patio into a backyard oasis. As can be seen from the before an after photos, we went from having a limited and cluttered outdoor living space to one where we now entertain year round. We have an expanded pool deck with Travertine tiles that stay cool in the summer with lounge seating on once side and firepit that seats 10-12 off the other. We now have a brand new outdoor kitchen on a raised patio off the main kitchen in the house. Additionally, a second raised landing was installed to provide a walkout from our sunroom which leads to an outstanding fireplace on the main patio area (All flagstone). At our most recent holiday party, everyone who saw the patio thought it was gorgeous. Tastefully and thoughtfully laid out with amazing craftsmanship. Many said that it felt like they were at a resort. If you are looking for someone that takes pride in their work and does it with the utmost care and attention to detail, I would highly recommend Doug and Four Seasons Landscaping for your next project.

It was a pleasure working with Doug and his crew on our daughter's large hardscaping project--a larger front stoop, a new and longer retaining wall, beautiful, lighted steps and a front patio. The entrance to their home went from narrow and downright dangerous to welcoming and gorgeous! Doug was creative and flexible throughout the project as our ideas and vision evolved (our daughter requested non-invasive/native-if-possible plants), and his suggestion to create a patio space in front and add lighting to the steps for safety was inspired. His crew was communicative, reliable, and did top-notch work. We also had them seal a patio in back and improve drainage, and plant a tree to commemorate our grandson's birth. Although the original plan called for new plantings, we decided to add perennial flowers for now and complete the planting vision at a later time. We have had many experiences with contractors, good and bad, and Four Seasons Landscaping & Nursery was among the BEST we have ever used!
