Custom Paver Patio Installation for Homeowners in Gaithersburg, MD

Homeowners across Gaithersburg, MD trust Four Seasons Landscaping to turn an overlooked stretch of yard into a patio they actually live on — a space built for dinner outside, quiet evenings, and hosting friends. We’ve been a family-owned design-build company since 2002, and we manage every phase in-house: design, excavation, the engineered base, the paver installation itself, and the finishing details.

No two backyards get the same patio. We size and shape each one around how a family really spends time outdoors, then anchor it on a base built to hold its shape through Maryland’s freeze-thaw winters year after year.

Searching for a paver patio installer near you in Gaithersburg who won’t cut corners on the base or the finish? Reach out to Four Seasons Landscaping for a free design consultation.

Paver Patios We Build in Gaithersburg, MD

Every yard is different, and so is every family’s idea of how to use one. Here’s what Gaithersburg homeowners come to us for most often:

Patios for Dining & Entertaining

Built around the table you’ll actually use, positioned for the right balance of sun and shade, with a clear route from the kitchen so serving guests doesn’t mean crossing the whole yard.

Fire-Feature Lounge Patios

An open, conversation-friendly layout centered on a fire pit or fireplace, so the patio keeps getting used once the weather cools instead of sitting empty from October through March.

Tiered & Wraparound Patios

Gaithersburg has no shortage of sloped and irregular lots. We use retaining walls and stepped grading to turn uneven ground into distinct, connected patio zones instead of one flat compromise.

Connecting Walkways & Steps

Matching or complementary paver walkways, steps, and landings that tie the patio into the driveway, front door, pool area, or garden beds.

Full Outdoor Living Builds

For homeowners planning further ahead, we design the patio alongside outdoor kitchens, pergolas, seating walls, and lighting so the whole space comes together as one design instead of add-ons bolted on later.

No matter the scope, our paver patio installations in Gaithersburg, MD are built to last and designed around how you’ll actually use the space. Contact Four Seasons Landscaping to schedule your free consultation.

Why Gaithersburg Homeowners Choose a Paver Patio

When it comes down to material, it’s almost always pavers versus a poured concrete slab. In Gaithersburg’s climate, pavers hold the advantage on nearly every point that matters years down the road:

They move instead of breaking.

Winter freeze-thaw cycles push and pull at anything set in the ground, and a solid concrete slab has nowhere to give — it cracks. Built from hundreds of separate units on a flexible base, a paver patio simply rides those seasonal shifts instead of resisting them.

Damage stays local.

Need to run a utility line under the patio, or dealing with a stained or cracked section? We simply lift the pavers involved, handle what’s underneath, and set them back so there’s no trace of the work. Try that with a poured slab and you’re left with a visible patch for good.

More ways to make it yours.

A poured slab gives you one surface and one look. Pavers open up an entirely different range — brick, tumbled stone, oversized concrete units, natural stone — so the color, texture, and pattern are actually yours to choose.

Water moves off the surface.

Every joint between the pavers gives water somewhere to go, and the engineered base underneath keeps channeling it away from the surface — which is exactly why paver patios don’t develop the standing puddles and slab erosion that come with a solid pour.

Buyers notice it.

Walk a buyer through a home with a well-built paver patio and it registers as finished living space, not a backyard afterthought — and in the Gaithersburg market, that’s the kind of feature that gets pointed out during a showing.

We know this area.

We’ve been building patios throughout Montgomery County since 2002, which means the soil conditions, drainage patterns, and permitting process specific to a Gaithersburg project aren’t new territory for us — we’ve already worked through them.

Our Paver Patio Installation Process in Gaithersburg, MD

The pavers are the part you see — the base underneath is the part that determines whether your patio stays flat for twenty years or starts sinking in three. Here’s how we approach both:

1. Planning Your Patio Layout

We walk your Gaithersburg property with you, evaluate the grade and layout, and talk through how you plan to use the patio. You leave with a defined layout and estimate before any digging starts.

2. Choosing Your Paver & Pattern

Together we pick the paver type and laying pattern — herringbone, running bond, basket weave — that fits both your home’s look and your budget.

3. Digging In: Excavation & Grading

We excavate to the correct depth and slope the base so water drains away from your foundation. This is where a lot of patios fail elsewhere, so it’s not a step we shortcut.

4. Building the Base That Holds It All

A compacted crushed-stone base — usually 4 to 6 inches, more in poorer soil — goes down in layers, topped with a leveling bed of sand. This is what actually holds the patio flat over time.

5. Placing Every Paver by Hand

We hand-set each paver to the chosen pattern, with even joint spacing and clean, precise cuts along edges and curves.

6. Locking the Edges & Filling the Joints

Edge restraints lock the perimeter so pavers can’t creep outward, then polymeric sand goes into the joints and hardens to keep weeds, insects, and shifting out.

7. Finishing Touches & Walkthrough

We compact the surface one last time, clean up the site, and walk the finished patio with you along with care and maintenance tips.

Paver Materials We Install

  • Concrete pavers — the most affordable option, and available in the widest variety of colors and shapes
  • Clay brick — a timeless look that won’t fade or discolor over the years
  • Natural stone, including flagstone, bluestone, and travertine, for a high-end surface where no two patios look exactly alike
  • Polymeric sand locked into the joints to keep weeds and insects out and pavers from shifting
  • Compacted crushed stone, the drainage layer that keeps the whole patio stable for the long run

Paver Patio FAQs for Gaithersburg Homeowners

How much does a paver patio installation cost in Gaithersburg, MD?

Cost comes down to the size of the patio, the material (concrete pavers, brick, or natural stone), how much site prep and drainage work is needed, and extras like a fire pit, steps, or a seat wall. Basic concrete-paver patios land toward the lower end of the range, while larger natural-stone or multi-tier designs run higher. Four Seasons Landscaping gives you a firm number after a free on-site consultation in Gaithersburg; most projects fall somewhere between $10–20k on the low end and $50k or more for larger builds.

Is a paver patio a better choice than concrete in Gaithersburg?

For Montgomery County’s freeze-thaw winters, yes, in most cases. Poured concrete is rigid and cracks as the ground shifts, while a paver patio flexes with it, individual units can be swapped out if damaged, and the design options go well beyond a plain slab. Concrete is usually cheaper up front, but pavers tend to hold up better and look better over the long run.

Can a paver patio work on a sloped Gaithersburg lot?

Yes — sloped and uneven yards are common around Gaithersburg, and it’s one of the situations we handle regularly. Retaining walls, stepped grading, and tiered layouts let us build a patio that works with the slope rather than trying to flatten it, often making the trickiest part of the yard the best-looking part.

How long does a paver patio installation take in Gaithersburg?

Most residential jobs run anywhere from several days to about two weeks, depending on the size, site conditions, drainage needs, and any added features. Excavation and base prep eat up the most time because that’s what determines whether the patio lasts. You’ll get a firm timeline in your estimate, and we keep you posted as the work moves along.

Doug and his team at Four Seasons are excellent! Four years ago, Doug designed an entirely new front walkway plus all new shrubs and trees. Within the first year, it grew beautifully and today, it is stunning. We were so pleased, we’ve gone back to Doug two more times. Two years ago to fill in an area in our backyard that lost so many trees over the years due to storms — it is a lovely oasis in our backyard today. Then less than a year ago, another storm took out a few of our front yard trees and Doug planted a new bed of replacement trees. The landscaping looks so good, the delivery people even comment on it! We keep going back to Doug because he creates beautiful designs with high quality products. Plus his team does excellent work. We highly recommend Four Seasons!

"I feel like I'm at the W" That was a quote from one of our friends when they first saw our new patio that Four Seasons Landscaping built for us. This is the second time I've used Four Seasons Landscaping to install a patio at a house we've owned. Their work is TOP NOTCH. Doug and his artisans transformed a poorly designed patio into a backyard oasis. As can be seen from the before an after photos, we went from having a limited and cluttered outdoor living space to one where we now entertain year round. We have an expanded pool deck with Travertine tiles that stay cool in the summer with lounge seating on once side and firepit that seats 10-12 off the other. We now have a brand new outdoor kitchen on a raised patio off the main kitchen in the house. Additionally, a second raised landing was installed to provide a walkout from our sunroom which leads to an outstanding fireplace on the main patio area (All flagstone). At our most recent holiday party, everyone who saw the patio thought it was gorgeous. Tastefully and thoughtfully laid out with amazing craftsmanship. Many said that it felt like they were at a resort. If you are looking for someone that takes pride in their work and does it with the utmost care and attention to detail, I would highly recommend Doug and Four Seasons Landscaping for your next project.

It was a pleasure working with Doug and his crew on our daughter's large hardscaping project--a larger front stoop, a new and longer retaining wall, beautiful, lighted steps and a front patio. The entrance to their home went from narrow and downright dangerous to welcoming and gorgeous! Doug was creative and flexible throughout the project as our ideas and vision evolved (our daughter requested non-invasive/native-if-possible plants), and his suggestion to create a patio space in front and add lighting to the steps for safety was inspired. His crew was communicative, reliable, and did top-notch work. We also had them seal a patio in back and improve drainage, and plant a tree to commemorate our grandson's birth. Although the original plan called for new plantings, we decided to add perennial flowers for now and complete the planting vision at a later time. We have had many experiences with contractors, good and bad, and Four Seasons Landscaping & Nursery was among the BEST we have ever used!
