Custom Paver Patio Installation for Homeowners in Rockville, MD

Since 2002, Four Seasons Landscaping has run as a family-owned design-build company serving Rockville, Maryland — meaning the team that draws up your patio is the same team pouring the base and setting the pavers, start to finish.

Ask any Rockville homeowner what they actually use a patio for and the answer changes by season: it’s a table for six in the summer, a spot to sit around the fire once the weather turns, and, more often than not, the piece the rest of the backyard gets built around next — a kitchen, a pergola, a fire feature. That’s why we design every patio around real use first and worry about the layout second, then put it on top of a base engineered to stay flat through a Montgomery County winter instead of heaving and cracking.

If “paver patio installer near me” is what brought you here, you’ve found a Rockville team that treats the base as seriously as the surface. Contact Four Seasons Landscaping today to set up your free consultation.

Paver Patios We Build in Rockville, MD

We build every patio around the way a Rockville family actually plans to use it. Here’s what comes up most often in our conversations with homeowners:

Dinner & Gathering Patios

Shaped and sized around the table and chairs you already own — or plan to buy — with enough clearance to move around comfortably, oriented to catch the right balance of sun and shade, and laid out on a clear, easy path from the kitchen door.

Fire Pit & Lounge Patios

An open, conversation-friendly layout built around a fire pit or fireplace, with seating arranged to face inward — this is the patio design that keeps getting used well after the summer crowd goes home.

Stepped & Multi-Level Patios

Rockville has no shortage of sloped or split-level lots, and we design around that grade rather than fighting it — retaining walls and steps tie separate zones together into one connected patio.

Connector Walkways, Steps & Landings

Matching or complementary paver walkways, steps, and landings that link your new patio to the driveway, the front door, a pool deck, or a garden bed, so the whole property reads as one design.

Full Outdoor Living Builds

Since the patio is the base everything else sits on, we design it in tandem with fire features, outdoor kitchens, pergolas, seating walls, and landscape lighting so the finished space feels planned as a whole, not added on piece by piece.

No matter which of these fits your Rockville property, our design process delivers a patio built to last. Reach out to Four Seasons Landscaping to schedule your free consultation.

Why Rockville Homeowners Choose a Paver Patio

Most homeowners deciding on a new patio surface end up comparing pavers to a poured concrete slab at some point. In Rockville’s climate, pavers come out ahead on nearly every point that matters years down the road:

They move with the ground instead of against it.

A concrete slab is a single rigid pour, so when soil heaves in winter, it cracks. A paver patio is built from hundreds of individual units over a flexible base, which lets the whole surface shift slightly without breaking.

Repairs blend in instead of leaving a mark.

If a paver stains, chips, or a utility line underneath needs attention, we lift the affected pavers, do the work, and reset them so there’s no visible patch. Concrete doesn’t offer that option; every repair shows.

Far more design flexibility than a slab allows.

Brick, tumbled stone, oversized concrete pavers, and natural stone give you color, texture, and pattern choices a poured slab simply can’t provide.

Better water management.

The joints between pavers, paired with an engineered base underneath, move water off the patio more efficiently than a flat slab — less standing water, less erosion around the edges.

A real boost at resale.

Buyers read a properly installed paver patio as a finished outdoor room, and it’s consistently one of the exterior upgrades that shows up in Rockville-area home value.

Two decades of Montgomery County experience.

We’ve been building across this county since 2002, which means we already know the local soil conditions, drainage patterns, and permitting steps that keep a Rockville patio performing for years.

Our Paver Patio Installation Process in Rockville, MD

The pavers you see are the last piece of the project — what’s underneath them determines whether the patio stays flat for decades or starts rippling and sinking within a few years. Our process is built around that fact.

1. On-Site Walkthrough & Design Plan

We walk your Rockville property with you, look at the grade and how the space will get used, and talk through size, shape, and material options. You leave with a firm layout and estimate before any work begins.

2. Choosing Your Paver & Layout

Together, we pick the paver product and laying pattern — running bond, herringbone, basket weave, or another option — that fits both your home’s style and your budget.

3. Digging Out & Sloping for Drainage

We excavate to the proper depth and grade the area so water moves away from your foundation. Skimping on excavation depth is the leading cause of patio failure down the road, so we build in the depth every time.

4. Building the Compacted Base

A crushed-stone base gets installed and compacted in lifts, generally 4 to 6 inches (more for poorer soils), topped with a leveling layer of bedding sand — get this layer right, and the patio stays flat and stable for decades instead of settling or heaving.

5. Setting the Pavers

Every paver is hand-set into the chosen pattern, with even, tight joints and precise cuts along borders and curved edges.

6. Locking the Edges & Joints

Edge restraints lock the perimeter in place so pavers can’t spread outward, and polymeric sand gets swept into the joints, where it hardens to fight off weeds, insects, and shifting.

7. Final Compaction & Handoff

A final compaction pass locks the surface in place, we clean up the job site, and we walk the finished patio with you and go over how to care for it.

Paver Materials We Install

  • Concrete pavers — our most cost-effective option, with the largest selection of colors, shapes, and finishes
  • Clay brick — brings timeless curb appeal and keeps its color for years without fading
  • Natural stone (flagstone, bluestone, travertine) — a high-end material where every slab is genuinely one of a kind
  • Polymeric sand — locked into the joints to shut out weeds, insects, and shifting
  • Compacted crushed stone — the engineered base layer that keeps everything underneath stable and well-drained for the long haul

Paver Patio FAQs for Rockville Homeowners

What does a paver patio cost in Rockville, MD?

Paver patio cost in Rockville depends on square footage, the paver material you choose (concrete pavers, brick, or natural stone), site prep and drainage needs, and any added features like steps, walls, or a fire pit. Straightforward concrete-paver patios sit at the lower end, while larger natural-stone or multi-level patios run higher. Four Seasons Landscaping provides a customized estimate after a free on-site consultation in Rockville; typical project budgets range from $10–20K up to $50K and above.

Is a paver patio a better choice than a concrete slab in Rockville?

For Montgomery County’s freeze-thaw climate, pavers are generally the better long-term choice. A poured concrete slab is rigid and cracks when the ground heaves, while a paver patio flexes with the ground, individual pavers can be replaced if damaged, and it offers far more design options. Concrete can cost less up front, but pavers usually win on longevity, repairability, and appearance over time.

Can a paver patio work on a sloped or uneven Rockville lot?

Yes. Sloped and uneven lots are common around Rockville, and they’re one of our specialties. We use grading, steps, and retaining walls to build multi-level patios that work with the slope instead of fighting it, often turning the most awkward part of a yard into its best feature.

What's the timeline for a paver patio installation in Rockville?

Most residential paver patios in Rockville take several days to about two weeks, depending on size, site conditions, drainage work, and added features. Excavation and base work take the most time because they’re what make the patio last. We provide a firm timeline in your estimate and keep you updated throughout the project.

Doug and his team at Four Seasons are excellent! Four years ago, Doug designed an entirely new front walkway plus all new shrubs and trees. Within the first year, it grew beautifully and today, it is stunning. We were so pleased, we’ve gone back to Doug two more times. Two years ago to fill in an area in our backyard that lost so many trees over the years due to storms — it is a lovely oasis in our backyard today. Then less than a year ago, another storm took out a few of our front yard trees and Doug planted a new bed of replacement trees. The landscaping looks so good, the delivery people even comment on it! We keep going back to Doug because he creates beautiful designs with high quality products. Plus his team does excellent work. We highly recommend Four Seasons!

"I feel like I'm at the W" That was a quote from one of our friends when they first saw our new patio that Four Seasons Landscaping built for us. This is the second time I've used Four Seasons Landscaping to install a patio at a house we've owned. Their work is TOP NOTCH. Doug and his artisans transformed a poorly designed patio into a backyard oasis. As can be seen from the before an after photos, we went from having a limited and cluttered outdoor living space to one where we now entertain year round. We have an expanded pool deck with Travertine tiles that stay cool in the summer with lounge seating on once side and firepit that seats 10-12 off the other. We now have a brand new outdoor kitchen on a raised patio off the main kitchen in the house. Additionally, a second raised landing was installed to provide a walkout from our sunroom which leads to an outstanding fireplace on the main patio area (All flagstone). At our most recent holiday party, everyone who saw the patio thought it was gorgeous. Tastefully and thoughtfully laid out with amazing craftsmanship. Many said that it felt like they were at a resort. If you are looking for someone that takes pride in their work and does it with the utmost care and attention to detail, I would highly recommend Doug and Four Seasons Landscaping for your next project.

It was a pleasure working with Doug and his crew on our daughter's large hardscaping project--a larger front stoop, a new and longer retaining wall, beautiful, lighted steps and a front patio. The entrance to their home went from narrow and downright dangerous to welcoming and gorgeous! Doug was creative and flexible throughout the project as our ideas and vision evolved (our daughter requested non-invasive/native-if-possible plants), and his suggestion to create a patio space in front and add lighting to the steps for safety was inspired. His crew was communicative, reliable, and did top-notch work. We also had them seal a patio in back and improve drainage, and plant a tree to commemorate our grandson's birth. Although the original plan called for new plantings, we decided to add perennial flowers for now and complete the planting vision at a later time. We have had many experiences with contractors, good and bad, and Four Seasons Landscaping & Nursery was among the BEST we have ever used!
